Benzema was in top form for Real Madrid as they came from behind to beat Eibar 3-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
The match started on the wrong foot for Zinedine Zidane’s side as they had a goal scored by Karim Benzema disallowed for offside, as early as the ninth minute.
Eibar, who had beaten Real Madrid 3-0 at their home earlier in the season, took a shocking lead through midfielder, Cardona.
Escalante had a beautiful interchange with Cucurella before setting up Cardona superbly, and the right midfielder dinked the ball past Keylor Navas in goal.
Real Madrid struggled through the first half as they didn’t show much character.
In the second half, Zidane swapped Gareth Bale (RW to LW) and Marco Asensio’s positions and the switching worked magic with Asensio getting more involved, causing problems for the Eibar defence.
In the 59th minute, the Spanish young star sent in a perfect cross to Karim who headed home Real’s equalizer.
Benzema’s equalizer came just minutes after his initial equalizer in the second half was cancelled out by VAR for being inches offside.
With nine minutes of regulation time to play, Karim Benzema turned super hero as he headed another goal– this time from a Toni Kroos cross– to put Real Madrid ahead in the game.
• Benzema’s second goal, much to the delight of the scanty Bernabeu fans.
Benzema could’ve easily scored 4-5 goals with all the chances he had before the match ended, but he managed to miss an open net and hit the woodwork in another occasion.
Zidane and the fans will however be proud of Benzema as he has carried the Madrid side on his shoulders in this game with the help of Marco Asensio, Isco and Toni Kroos. He has also recorded 29 goals in all competitions for Real and 16 in Laliga Santander.
