Four goals from Diego Costa helped Atletico Madrid to an emphatic 7-3 victory against neighbours and rivals, Real Madrid at the Metlife Stadium.

Real Madrid’s international Champions cup campaign came to an end in the worst possible way as they suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.
A hattrick from Diego Costa– including a goal 46 seconds after kick off– with strikes from new star, Jao Felix, and Angel Correa in the seventh and eighteenth minute respectively, gave Cholo’s team a resounding 5-0 first half lead.
Zinedine Zidane’s men were left in disarray as things worsened for them at the Metlife stadium with new striker, Luca Jovic sustaining an injury in a collision with Jan Oblak.
Real, who recently lost Asensio to a season ending injury have now added to their growing list of injured players which includes Brahim Diaz and newly acquired left back, Ferland Mendy.
The second half of the game commenced with Real making couple of changes in a bid to either turn the game around or make the scoreline more respectable.
But Diego Costa was having none of that when he fired past Keylor Navas for his fourth on the night and Atleti’s sixth.
Real Madrid eventually scored in the 58th minute when Eden Hazard was able to carve out a chance which Nacho Fernandez squared home to make it 6-1

Couple of minutes later, Costa went from 100 to 0 when he got entangled in a serious altercation with Dani Carvajal which led to both players getting sent off by the centre referee.
Despite the red cards, Atleti refused to take their foot off the pedal as substitute, Vitolo, added to Real’s woes by making it 7-1 in the 69th minute.
In what will be regarded as a nightmare in New Jersey for the Los Blancos, Karim Benzema (through a penalty) and Adrian De La Fuente got on the scoresheet in the 85th and 89th minute respectively to reduce the embarrassing scoreline to 7-3.
A very poor end to a poor run of pre-season games for Zidane and his men in this year’s International Champions Cup.
