The moment we all (at least the mercenarians) have been waiting is finally here, did you catch the first episode of former Big Brother Naija pepper dem season housemates, Mercy Eke and Ikechukwu Onyema, show?. Well, I did and this is my review of the show.
It was nice that they included the story of how their love started right from the big brother house and how they were allies in the game (we all watch how they would fight and make up, how Ike bought immunity for Mercy with his coins and how they both won the head of house) at the beginning of the show. I mean this love story seems to be better than that of Romeo and Juliet; and of course not without its ups and downs, which is what the show is for, to capture and tell us their journey.
The first episode also had some emotions to it, which also drew emotions from the viewers when Mercy explains that her mother had wanted to abort her when she was pregnant with her. She said her mother would climb a tree and fall down from it just to see if she could lose the pregnancy after she was mocked for having too many children. That story really touched so many viewers and made them emotional, as the rejected stone has now become the cornerstone – Mercy is now the richest in her family and takes care of her family.
Another thing I loved was the bond between Mercy and her elder sister. On the show they seem very close and a lot of viewers loved the bond between them (so did I).
Also throughout the show, the love and chemistry between Mercy and Ike are unbelievably present in this episode as the pair kept blushing at each other compliments. I might have sense a bit of tension, especially when they were talking about their dealings with friends of the opposite sex. Ike seems to be more affected by a certain Wille (***slips tea** DRAMA!!!!) as he kept bringing it up in a sneaky way during their conversations.
As great as the first episode was, the only downside to this episode is how short the time frame is; I mean before I could blink twice the show was over. It lasted only 30 minutes and I would love for it to be up to an hour long and i think all of Mercy and Ike fans feel the same way.
Overall, I rate the first episode 8/10 – I look forward to the next episode this Sunday by 6:30 pm on African Magic showcase.
Let me know your thoughts on this pilot episode. See you next week with my review of episode two.
