An Inter Ministerial Committee has been established by the Rivers State government to organize the state’s celebration of Nigeria’s 62nd anniversary of Independence Day.Rivers govt inaugurates Independence Day celebration committee

The Permanent Secretary, Special Services Bureau, Office of the Secretary to the State Government (OSSG), Sir George C. Nwaeke, PhD. Mni, inaugurated the committee on Wednesday in Port Harcourt and stated that the goal of the early planning is to ensure a solid foundation in tangible terms to achieve the best result for a memorable ceremony.

The Permanent Secretaries of Health, Culture, Education, and Housing, as well as the State’s Military Service Chiefs and the Commissioner of Police, serve as members of the committee, which is headed by the Permanent Secretary (SSB).

The Director of DSS, the FRSC and NSCDC Sector Commanders, the Red Cross, and the Stadia Authority are additional members.Rivers govt inaugurates Independence Day celebration committee

The Interdenominational Church Service, Jumm’at Prayers, and the grand finale—the inspection of the Guard of Honour by His Excellency, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike of Rivers State—are among the 62nd anniversary’s anticipated activities, according to the Permanent Secretary OSSG.

A parade by the Nigerian Police as well as a marchpast by educational institutions and non-governmental organizations will also take place.

The Permanent Secretary explained;
The Independence Day celebration is another opportunity to celebrate, reflect on our signs of progress and make amends on the challenges confronting our socio-political and economic sectors. All hands must be on deck to ensure the 62nd Independence activities are memorable and a huge success,”
