The council chairman, Hon. Solomon Abel Eke broke the news about the new facility late Monday night.
“Obio/Akpor is an industrial hub in Rivers state, we cannot continue to over labour the fire service station in Mile 1. Establishing one within the LGA to cater for emergency situations when the need arises will help us protect lives and property,” he said.
He added that the fire station is ready to hit the ground running, with fire trucks and staff that will work round the clock 24/7 to ensure that no life or property is lost to fire outbreaks in the LGA.
