In a bid to commence the Rivers/Real Madrid football academy in Port Harcourt, the first batch of coaches have been spotted undergoing training in Madrid, Spain.
9 coaches were selected by the state to undergo the training and they left for Spain on the 18th of March, 2019.
Among those who made the trip are Joseph Egbu, Odinga, Gabriel Nwiyara, Isaac Atonbere and Martins Datoru. Others include Sunny Iseokweima, Albert Chinwo, Victor Babayaro and Eldered Sunju-Abbey, who is the project coordinator.
While addressing newsmen earlier on Monday, Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Boma Iyaye, noted that the coaches were chosen after thorough interview without sentiment or political colouration.
According to him, the coaches would form the pioneer technical hands to kick off the nascent Real Madrid Academy in Port Harcourt, which will create a platform for youngsters in the state.
“It will give Rivers State youngsters as well as residents and other Nigerians an opportunity to explore their talent while not missing out on formal education”, Hon Iyaye noted.
