Former Governor of Abia and present serving Senator in the 9th Assembly, Orji Uzor Kalu, has been found guilty by the Federal High Court presiding over his case, in Lagos, over an alleged fraud of N7. 65 billion, and has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment.
According to the post shared by EFCC Nigeria on social media, on the 5th of December, 2019, they made this known that the Ex. Governor Orji Kalu is been sentenced to jail over a N7. 65 billion fraud.
The serving Senator and Ex. Governor was found guilty over an alleged fraud, alongside his company, Slok Nigeria Limited and Udeh Udeogu his former Directors of Finance and Accounts who served under him when his was a governor.
Justice Mohammad Idris presided over the case, found Orji Kalu guilty and then sentenced him to 12 years imprisonment. The prison sentence also came with other multiple sentences between three and five years.
The other two defendants were also found guilty and got slammed with multiple sentences between three and 10 years.
Uzor-Kalu, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had in his reaction, said he had nothing to say but to give all thanks and glory to God Almighty.
During one of his trials, In his defence, Senator Uzor Kalu stated that he had governed Abia between 1999 and 2007, told the court during one of the trials that he governed the state with his personal money within the initial six months of his first tenure.
He added that he could not have stolen what was not in existence.
