This is the season of heavy rainfall in several parts of Nigeria, which is currently causing havoc with the destruction of buildings, properties and lose of lives.
The video of a collapsing 2-storey building after a heavy downpour at Nkisi -Alori street, Inland Town, Onitsha, Anambra State is currently going viral on social media and has caught the attention of many Nigerians.
The video was taken as of the very moment the building was collapsing, its cause is that the building had soaked in a lot of water and had become weak to stand on its own.
We would remember that earlier this year, we also had a storey building that collapsed in Lagos where some school kids lost their lives.
Although that was due to lack of proper usage of building materials, it’s still linked to the same problem with housing in Nigeria.
If the right materials were used and if things were done the right way, I am sure the collapse of this building could have been totally avoided.
With that being said, it is very much obvious that we need strict housing regulations that will not only be on paper but also be well implemented.
