Hey, you k-drama fans, I know you probably might have been looking for a great 2019 Korean series to watch, don’t worry I have a list for you. Here are six must-watch Korean dramas of 2019.
6) Her Private Life
This movie starring Park Min-young and Kim Jae Wook tells a story of a secret fangirl – Sung Deok-mi (Park Min Young) who is also a happens to be a curator of Cheum Museum of Art and Rayan Gold (Kim Jae Wook), a standoffish artist who developed Stendhal syndrome which leads to his retirement.
Ryan Gold who lived in the USA returned to Korea after he was appointed to be the new art director of Cheum Museum of Art, who also was in search of his mother, started a fake romance with Sung Deok Mi who is the manager of the famous whit ocean’s Cha Shi-an and secret fanatic fangirl who works at the Cheum Museum of Art. What started off as a fake romance became real for them.
This drama is a not too serious drama, I was not kept under suspense and enjoy every scene from it.
Abyss starring Park Bo-young, Ahn Hyo-seop, and Lee Sung-jae tells a story of a magical ball that has the power to revive humans into the body of their soul which might be different from their normal body form.
Go Se-yeon (Park Bo-young) is a beautiful prosecution lawyer at the top of her game, and Cha Min (Ahn Hyo-seop) is her friend since high school, an unattractive but rich heir to a cosmetics empire. They are both revived into the body of their soul by the “Abyss” a small celestial ball which was given to Cha Min by two supernatural beings after they caused his death while Go Se-yeon get revived by Cha Min after she was murdered. The “Abyss” is a celestial object which has the power to revive anything that has died; the reincarnated bodies take on the appearance of that person’s soul, but there are rules to follow while using it. Go Se-yeon takes on a plainer appearance which happens to be the appearance of a girl she hates, whilst Cha Min becomes very attractive and young; virtually the opposite of before. They start working together to find out the reason for their revival and who caused Go Se-yeon’s death.
Oh Yeong-cheol/Oh Seong-chol (Lee Sung-jae) is a skilled surgeon which is referred to as a legend in the medical world, who later turned out to be the serial killer and Go Se-yeon’s murder along with his son which is also Go Se-Yeon’s colleague
Abyss was a great movie from the beginning to the end, I was really interested in knowing what punishment Oh Yeong-cheol was going to get and I must say, I liked what he got.
4) Arthdal Chronicles
The movie starring Jang Dong-gun, Song Joong-ki, Kimm Ji-won, and Kim Ok-vin tells a story of a man who would do anything to be the king of Arthdal, a boy who wants to save his tribe from Arthdal, a girl who has the gift of the spirits and a girl who wants to became the first female ruler of Arthdal
Ta-gon (Jang Dong-gun) is the first son of San-ung, leader of the Arthdal Union and an Igutu (mixed blood of human and Neanthal) which is unknown to many. Ta-gon is blessed with both intelligence and physicality, he’s a genius strategist and warrior, the head of the Daekan troops.
Ta-gon became a hero for all Arthdal tribes, his cunning strategies was able to make him the first king of Arthdal.
Eun-seom and Saya (Song Joong-ki) are identical twins who are the sons of the Neanthal king Ragaz and Asa Hon a member of the Saram tribe. The boys were separated at birth after the death of their father and the while Neanthal tribe, Eun-seom ended up with his mother at Iark and became a member of the Wahan tribe while Saya was adopted by Ta-gon as his son. Eun-seom is the reincarnation of one of the Arthdal gods Aranum Hallsulla, and the man who will save the Wahan tribe from Arthdal, while Saya device plans to help his father Ta-gon become the ruler of Arthdal.
Tan-ya (Kim Ji-won) is a daughter of Yeol-son and a descent of the great mother Asa Sin. She is the child of prophecy, the successor of the spiritual mother of the Wahan tribe and a lover to Eun-seom.
Tae Al-ha (Kim Ok-vin) is the daughter of the Hae Tribe Chief Mi-hol, who are foreigners to Arthdal. She is also a lover to Ta-gon and helped him ascend the throne of Arthdal, she also aspires to be the first female ruler of Arthdal.
I felt different emotions while watching this series, it reminded me of Game of Thrones because of its similarities to the series. I highly recommend this drama trust me it is worth it.
3) Romance is a bonus book
Romance is a bonus book starring Lee Na-young and Lee Jong-suk tells of a divorcee who finds it difficult to a job after her divorce, who takes a job as a high school certificate and a talented chief editor in a publishing firm.
Cha Eun Ho (Lee Jong-suk) is a successful author and a senior editor at a book publishing company. Kang Dan-i (Lee Na-young) is a mother and former successful advertising copywriter. When Cha Eun Ho was a child, Kang Dan-i saved him from an accident and was injured. Cha Eun Ho helped her recuperate and they have been close friends ever since. When Kang Dan-i goes through a major life change and tries to re-enter the professional world, their lives become even more connected. They face personal and professional challenges as they slowly start to realize their true feelings for each other.
I personally loved this drama, I love the fact it was about books, I love the fact that it is about writing, I love how great the actors were and I loved that it touched issues that we encounter in our daily life. This is a must-watch for book lovers and writers, especially if you are a fan of Lee Jong-suk since this is going to be his last drama before he enlists for the compulsory military service in Korea.
This drama starring Lee Seung-gi, Bae Suzy and Shi Sung-rok tells a story of an uncle who was determined to find out the cause of the plane crash that killed his nephew with the help of two secret agent
After a mysterious plane crash kills over 211 civilians, including Cha Dal-gun’s (Lee Seung-gi) nephew. Determined to find out the truth behind the accident, Cha Dal-gun embarks on an investigation that leads him to a tangled web of corruption in the government. His life intertwines with Go Hae-ri (Bae Suzy) a covert operative for the National Intelligence Service who enlists the help of Ki Tae-woong (Shi Sung-rok) the head of National Intelligence Service information team.
This drama kept me on the edge, the story plot, production, and actors were amazing. I kept on wanting to know what was going to happen next, I wanted to find out who the bad guy was and I screamed at my television set serval times because of suspense. This drama is everything.
1) Hotel Del Luna
Hotel Del Luna starring Lee Ji-eun and Yeo Jin-goo as the owner and manager, respectively, of the eponymous hotel that caters only to ghosts.
The Hotel del Luna (formally referred to as the “Guest House of the Moon”), located in Seoul, is not like any other hotel: its clients are all ghosts, and it is not visible in its true form during the day. During the Goguryeo era, a rebel named Jang Man-wol (Lee Ji-eun) drank a liquor that unknowingly turned her into the guest house’s owner while she was traveling to find it. She has been stuck running the hotel for the past 1,000 years before meeting Koo Chan-Seong (Yeo Jin-goo), the new manager.
I love everything about this drama, I cried, I laughed, I got angry, and I was happy throughout this drama. It’s a very interesting drama and a must-watch for K-drama lovers
