Elsie, the ex-wife wife of popular comedian in Nigeria, Bright Okpocha, formally known as Basketmouth, has kicked against marriage-shaming, claiming it can a tough ride.
Only a few weeks after her ex-husband, Basketmouth, acknowledged the breakdown of their marriage in December, she has taken to social media to chastise all those who ridicule unmarried women.
She made this assertion in a video posted on her official Instagram page on Friday, claiming that people only make a big deal about a woman not being married at a certain age in this region of the world.
Elsie believes that more people need to realize that if a woman is not married, it is likely because she is taking her time or has not yet found the proper partner.
She continued by saying that many women do not want to race into this institution called marriage in order to arrive on time and end up running out because it is difficult.
Marriage can be very tough she said.
Her full statements reads;
“I feel like it is only in this part of the world that people make a big fuss about a woman not being married at a certain age. Is she going to marry herself? Some people even go ahead to ask like” Aunty, shey you no go go born one?”
“You need to understand that if a woman is not yet married, then it is probably maybe she is taking her time or she has not met the right person.
“Because you do not want to rush into this institution called marriage in the name of wanting to get into it on time and end up rushing out because it is tough. Marriage can be tough.”
