On the 30th day of January, 2019 at around 11 a.m, the Mozambique Queens of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) led a protest to the Division of Students’ Affairs.
The reason being that a male student was earlier found collecting grey water from the hall of residence.
Later was it gathered that the male student was one Rabiu Olalere Musa, a final year student of the department of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering, who was currently undergoing his final year research work in the department.
It is a common knowledge that all final year students are to undergo a research project of which Mr. Rabiu was not an exception.
With the project topic:
“CHARACTERIZATION AND REUSE OF GREYWATER IN OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY HOSTELS”
Mr. Rabiu was being duly supervised by a senior lecturer in the department.
Therefore, he was required to seek for permission from the Division of student affairs in order to gain access to the halls of residence and collect this grey water which he did and was then given the permission to do so including the Mozambique hall.
But failure to inform the student within the hall caused the unexpected commotion and unrest as a result of the circumstances surrounding it and recent trends of money rituals which resulted to a protest.
The department therefore implores the generality of students to please desist from rumours that can tarnish the image of the law-abiding, God-fearing Rabiu.
Adding that all questions should be directed to the department of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering and would be duly answered.
