Zinedine Yazid Zidane was presented as Real Madrid’s manager by Florentino Perez, yesterday, for the second time.
A presentation which had Real Madrid legends such as Amancio, Butragueno, Raul, Roberto Carlos and Alvaro Arbeloa in attendance saw President Perez express his utmost pleasure to have the 46 year old French man back at the club.
“I don’t forget the day when we managed to sign you so you could be part of our unique history, Zizou, the best coach in the world has arrived”
He went ahead to apologize to the fans for the disastrous season Madrid has had.
“We are very aware that we are going through a complicated moment and we know the pain of our fans. This season we have not obtained the results we expected and our obligation is to make the necessary changes.”
The managerial change has now brought in new sense of believe and optimism to the fans, as the man who brought unrivalled joy to them (even as a player), is back at the helm.
Zidane during his speech expressed how happy he was to be back at the capital. He addressed issues surrounding his resignation last summer, the club’s current situation, as well as what to expect next season.
But most importantly, he expressed his willingness to hit the ground running and seeing out the 11 remaining Laliga games in the best way possible.
• Here are some excerpts from his speech:
“I’m happy to be back home. That’s the most important thing.
I left because I needed it, the squad needed a change after winning everything.
I made the decision to return because the president called me and since I love him and love the club very much, here I am.
It’s a big responsibility, I played with this crest, I won a lot of things but I’m one more in this club, I also don’t forget what we did wrong.
No one is going to take away the enthusiasm of training again, I’m going to give everything to make the team better.
Things have to change for next year but now it’s not about that, we have time to talk about what can be done, we have 11 games left and we want to finish well.
I have had several proposals but I did not want to leave to other teams, but when the president called, i couldn’t say no, i can’t say no.
I didn’t hesitate to come back now instead of next season, because watching my players like that, i was not happy the way things were going.
i understand that the fans weren’t happy with the manner in which i left, but i have rested well in these few months.”
He went ahead to reveal that his technical crew will be the same as when he was previously at the Madrid dug out.
Journalists kept probing him on issues surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo, Isco and Marcelo, but Zidane had only this to say
“I’m not thinking about signings. I only think about the games that we have left. We’ll have time to talk about that with the people I have to talk to.”
Zidane’s first assignment in his second stinct as coach will be on Saturday when Celta Vigo comes visiting at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
