You’re in a bus heading from Abuja to Lagos.
As usual after leaving the park some zealous Christian begins a prayer to commit the journey into God’s hands, this prayer lasts 30mins, followed by a sermon.
Then we have a call for those who want to give their lives to Christ, then were called upon to donate something to help our “minister” there’s already a spiel ready, we’re told, “nothing is too big or too small, just give from your heart” then to cap it off, we receive some reading materials to help us in our quest to find God.
If you’re like me, you’d have had up to 3 concurrent naps and you keep asking yourself, when will it end?
Don’t get me wrong, I like praying as much as the next Christian, but ask yourself, do we really need a 3hrs sermon in a bus??
If I wanted the sermon I’d have gone to a church, heaven knows we have an abundance of churches in Nigeria, it’s even starting to seem like there’s a church on every street. And most of them condemn those who don’t share their faith.
Imagine if there was a Muslim in that bus, how do you think the person would feel??
I think we need to remember that Jesus didn’t always preach and perform miracles, he showed love to everyone.
So next time, before you force your sermon on somebody, ask yourself, would they rather hear me preach, or see me showing love to my neighbor?
