• The French manager was said that have been promised a free hand with transfer dealings, as well as good financial backing in the summer transfer window to reshuffle the squad to his taste.
Reports involving Neymar and Mbappe have been making the rounds since Zidane returned, but we’ll be focusing on reports involving Eden Hazard, Saido Mane and Raphael Varane.
• SAIDO MANE:
It is believed that Zidane has always been an admirer of the Senegalese attacker.
With his return at the helm of coaching affairs in the Spanish capital, there is a renewed interest on the Liverpool marksman. Saido Mane has scored 20 goals in all competitions, with 17 coming in the league for Liverpool this season– one adrift of top scorer, Sergio Aguero.
He also scored two vital goals to help Liverpool oust Bayern Munich in round of 16 of Champions League.
Bringing the 26-year-old, who has a contract with Liverpool till 2023 to Santiago Bernabeu will add more strength, tenacity and speed to the Real Madrid attack with serious team threats posed to Lucas Vazquez and Vinicius Jnr.
Chelsea’s star player, Eden Hazard has never hidden his love and admiration for Zinedine Zidane and Real Madrid. With his contract running out and Chelsea getting a transfer ban, there are even stronger indications that the Belgium playmaker will be leaving Stamford bridge for the Bernabeu this summer.
The premier league assist leader (11 assist) has however been quoted recently trying to cool down the rumours linking him to Madrid.
When quizzed about Real Madrid, Hazard told VTM;
“I’m not thinking about what will happen in two, three, four or five months time.”
The Chelsea number 10, who has contributed to 27 goals this season went further to say that he’s looking forward to winning the UEFA Europa league with Chelsea, and that he can only think about his current club and Belgium national team at this point in time.
Hazard has in the past, expressed strong desires to join the Los Blancos. It’s however believed that at Madrid, they’re waiting for his contract to run out to get him at a cut price (or possibly for free) from Chelsea– Hazard has also refused to renew his contract with the blues, putting the ball on his future in Real Madrid’s court.
• Hazard’s statistics show he has all it takes to be a galactico signing.
• RAPHAEL VARANE:
Recent development making the rounds in Madrid is that defender, Raphael Varane is unhappy at the club and wants out in the summer.
Spanish media outlet, AS, reported that the reason for his unhappiness is that Real Madrid didn’t officially recognise his feat at the last World Cup that was held in Russia.
Unlike fellow rivals, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona– who commemorated their French players who were part of the World Cup winning squad– Real didn’t do anything for Varane. It was also reported that the decision was made at Real, in other not to stir up issues with Luka Modric who was part of the Croatian team that lost in the Final.
One will however wonder if Barcelona didn’t have a Croatian player (Rakitic), yet they had their World Cup winning players come out at the Camp Nou with the World Cup’s replica trophy.
Manchester United are strongly linked to the defender, with Barcelona also keeping tabs.
Real Madrid few days ago, announced the signing of Brazilian defender, Éder Militão, who might just be Varane’s replacement.
When Zidane was reappointed, he promised that the squad was going to change next season. A good number of transfer ins and outs are also expected. There are rumours also lingering on Gareth Bale, and Marcelo.
Who do you think Real Madrid need to sell and buy this summer?
