Two controversial goals helped the Pride of Rivers – Rivers United secure a 2-1 win over Lobi Stars of Makurdi during their Nigerian Professional Football League game at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt, the River state capital.
Rivers United hosted the newest league leaders Lobi Stars following their outstanding display this season.
Just 2 minutes into the game, Esor Nelson turns in Konan N’Gouan’s corner to give the host the lead.
But Lobi stars leveled the scoreline 16 minutes later, thanks to John Lazarus with a stunning run from right wing to slot in the goal.
The Pride of Rivers have now won 57% (8) of their 14 games so far in the NPFL and 75% (6) of that have been at the YG Stadium, where they bounced back from their defeat to Akwa Starlets last Sunday.
Rivers United will take on Jigawa Golden Stars away from home on Sunday while Lobi Stars will battle Akwa Starlets at home same day.
