Manchester United’s first half ambush on rivals City secured an impressive 2-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester United took the lead in the 23rd minute after a Bernardo Silva’s tackle lunging left Marcus Rashford on the floor and a VAR review awarded a penalty to United which was converted by Rashford with ease.
United doubled their lead in the 28th minute with Daniel James and Anthony Martial linking up till Martial got the final shot that went in from Ederson’s left corner.
City got one back in the 85th minute after a fire header from substitute Nicholas Otamendi but it wasn’t enough as United saw out the game.
The victory sees United win the 179th edition of the Manchester derby.
Manchester City have an away trip in the Champions League to Dinamo Zagreb before travelling to the Emirates to face Arsenal next Sunday.
While Manchester United will host AZ in Thursday’s Europa League fixture, before welcoming Everton to Old Trafford.
