Middlesborough on Saturday played out a 1-1 draw against Newport County after Dolan scored late into the game to cancel Ayala’s goal earlier during their FA Cup clash.
The home side opened scoring 51 minutes on the clock, Lewis Wing with a cross following a corner and Daniel Ayala bounced on it with a header from the centre of the box to the bottom right corner.
But 90+3 minutes into game, Matthew Dolan left footed shot from very close range to the bottom right corner leveled the scoreline for the visitor.
After the game, former Tianjin Teda man, John Mikel Obi, who was replaced 62 minutes into the game by Adam Clayton on his debut pointed out that his performance was good.
“I thought the performance was good. When you play these games, we were one up, we controlled the game and it’s one of those games where if you sit back you can get caught out and that’s what happened,” Mikel told the club website.
The Super Eagles captain further noted that his side performed really well and he had a good start, adding that he’s hoping to make league appearance for Middlesborough when they battle West Bromwich Albion.
“The team played really well, it’s a good start for me and hopefully we can carry on from here. Today was good and hopefully I can get a few more games to get sharper and help the team a bit more,” Mikel said.
