And Burnley responded in turn to regain the lead with Ashley Barnes or target, converting at the back post after Johann Gudmundsson had scuffed his effort at goal.
The result hands Burnley a boost in their survival hopes at the bottom of the table, as they are six points clear of the relegation zone into 13th place, while Spurs are five points adrift of Manchester City at the top of the table.
Burnley will face Newcastle United next on the line while Tottenham will be looking set to battle Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
