Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State is urging the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to reconsider their decision to proceed with a nationwide strike in protest against the removal of fuel subsidies.Fuel Subsidy: Governor Sanwo-Olu begs NLC to reconsider nationwide strike

In a post-inauguration thanksgiving service at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of avoiding industrial action at this time.

During a press conference, Governor Sanwo-Olu stressed that a strike would not effectively address or resolve the issues at hand.

He highlighted that the removal of fuel subsidies is in the best interest of all Nigerians and encouraged the NLC to support President Bola Tinubu in effectively governing the country.

Governor Sanwo-Olu called for patience and collective reasoning, noting the recent inauguration of President Tinubu and the limited time he has spent in office.

He questioned the need for a strike, stating that all presidential candidates had pledged to remove fuel subsidies.

He asked, “What has changed? What has President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said or done that is different from what others would have done?”

The governor appealed to the NLC leadership to refrain from politicizing the subsidy issue and reminded them of their responsibility as leaders.

He also urged the NLC to exercise patience and collaborate with the president, emphasizing that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has assured ample fuel supply, eliminating the need for heightened tension.

Governor Sanwo-Olu stressed that the fuel subsidy issue should not be entangled in political disputes, as it is a matter of governance and the need for purposeful leadership.

He implored labor leaders to unite with the federal administration and exhibit patience in President Tinubu’s efforts to revitalize the economy and create a better Nigeria for all.
