NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko announce for Abuja say winner of the 2026/27 Naija Premier League season go receive minimum prize money of ₦1 billion, a huge jump from the ₦200 million wey league champions dey collect before, na weytin Hitvibz dey yan be dat.
NPFL Prize Money Don Reach Record ₦1 Billion
Dem make the announcement after meeting wey involve top officials from NSC, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Naija Premier League leadership.
The new NPFL prize money structure expected to boost the commercial value of the league and make competition among clubs stronger.
The NSC chairman talk say the biggest outcome from the meeting be say the champions of the 2026/27 Naija Premier League season go receive minimum prize money of ₦1 billion.
“The runners-up will receive ₦500 million, while the third-placed team will earn ₦300 million, subject to official confirmation by league authorities.”
Dikko explain say the new prize structure na part of wider plans to improve the commercial value, professionalism and competitiveness of the domestic league.
Apart from the massive increase for di Naija Premier League prize money, one of the major decisions from the meeting na the approval of ₦2 million minimum monthly salary for NPFL players.
Football authorities also agree say dem go strictly enforce stronger club licensing requirements, with player welfare becoming a major focus while clubs must meet standards wey pass ordinary minimum requirements.
NPFL Minimum Salary Reform Don Raise Questions for Clubs
The new salary policy aim to improve player welfare, reduce the number of talented footballers wey dey rush go abroad in search of better opportunities and make the league more attractive to quality players.
“Players must earn a living wage. This is how we build a league that commands respect at home and abroad,” Dikko stated.
Even though many people don welcome the reforms, e still dey raise serious questions about whether all NPFL clubs fit comfortably meet the new financial responsibilities.
According to Dikko, the reforms no be only about prize money and player salaries.
“The issues discussed today are fundamental to the growth and development of Nigerian football.
“Collectively, we share the same ambition and vision of moving Nigerian football forward and ensuring sustained success at every level.”
The NSC chairman also praise NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi for their contributions during the meeting wey him describe as productive and focused on moving Nigerian football forward.
This latest announcement come just few weeks after Enugu Rangers win the 2025/26 NPFL title.
However, authorities never announce the official date for the start of the next NPFL season.
