The sporting community is united in grief as messages of condolence pour in following the tragic loss of lives from the Kano State contingent during their return from the National Sports Festival in Ogun State.
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Rivers State Chapter, has conveyed its deepest sympathies to the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the entire sporting fraternity in Kano over the devastating loss of 20 athletes in a fatal car accident after their return from the Gateway Games 2024 in Abeokuta, Hitvibz reports.
Rivers SWAN Mourns Kano Contingent Loss
The Port Harcourt SWAN expressed profound shock and sorrow at the heartbreaking incident, acknowledging the immense potential of the young athletes who tragically lost their lives.
The association recognised their promise to bring pride to Nigeria in the future, highlighting the devastating impact of their untimely passing.
Solidarity and Prayers for Kano State
In their message, Rivers SWAN extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families during this incredibly difficult period.
The entire sports community in Rivers State stands in solidarity, offering prayers for the families to find the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss.
“Rivers SWAN is in deep shock and sorrow over this sad incident that took the lives of these aspiring young athletes who have promised to make Nigeria proud in the future,” the association said in a statement.
They join in mourning the lives cut short and the dreams that will remain unfulfilled.
“The entire sports fraternity in Rivers State prays God to give the families of the departed young athletes the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss,” Rivers SWAN concluded.
