Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has firmly refuted claims that the state is under any form of police siege.
Addressing recent speculations, Governor Fubara assured the public that Rivers State remains peaceful and secure, Hitvibz reports.
During an inspection of the Eberi-Omodu road in Omuma Local Government Area on Thursday, Governor Fubara highlighted that the rumors were spread by detractors of his administration.
“We are not under siege; the state is free,” he stated. “If at all there is any problem in the state, I know quite alright that Nigerians know where it is coming from and not from us,” he said.
The governor inspected the road project, which was initiated by his administration. Initially planned to be 8 kilometers long, the project has been extended to 14.6 kilometers to link Abia State.
Governor Fubara expressed pride in this development, noting that although it was originally scheduled to be part of the one-year anniversary projects, the extension demonstrates a commitment to broader connectivity and infrastructure improvement.
Governor Fubara assured that the road would be completed and commissioned within the next few months.
He used the occasion to counteract negative media reports about the state being under police siege.
According to the governor, their ongoing project inspections contrast with media reports suggesting the police presence prevents them from moving about.
Reiterating his commitment to peace, Governor Fubara emphasized his dedication to maintaining and enhancing the tranquility in Rivers State for the benefit of its residents.
“I am peace-loving, and I promise to sustain the prevailing peace for the betterment of the people of Rivers State,” he affirmed.
