Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo, the newly appointed Chairman of the Caretaker Committee for Obio Akpor Local Government Area (LGA), has announced a significant reduction in taxes for local traders.
This 50% tax cut aims to alleviate economic burdens and foster better market conditions for traders within the LGA, Hitvibz reports.
Ambassador Ihunwo’s appointment has been met with huge celebrations from traders across Obio Akpor.
Their appreciation was palpable during his recent inspection tour of major markets, including the Obio Akpor International Market, Rumuagholu Market, Rumumasi Market, and Yam Zone Market.
The purpose of the tour was to evaluate market conditions, engage with market leaders, and identify pressing needs to enhance the overall market environment.
During his visit, Ambassador Ihunwo highlighted the importance of maintaining weekly sanitation to ensure cleanliness and improve market services.
This initiative is part of his broader strategy to create a more conducive trading environment.
In his announcement, Ambassador Ihunwo emphasised that the 50% tax reduction is not only a response to the current economic challenges but also a gesture of gratitude for the traders’ support of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration.
He expressed his commitment to easing the financial pressures on traders and promoting economic stability within the LGA.
Traders expressed their gratitude for the tax relief and pledged their continued support for Ambassador Ihunwo’s leadership.
Ambassador Ihunwo was recently sworn in by Governor Fubara alongside chairpersons from 22 other Local Government Areas at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Port Harcourt.
During the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Fubara urged the new caretaker chairmen to maintain peace and order in their respective LGAs and to avoid confrontation, explaining that a crisis-free administration is essential for effective governance.
