In a recent announcement, Governor Otti declared the immediate suspension of all transport levies imposed on tricycles, buses, taxis, and other commercial vehicles plying Abia roads.

This bold move aims to eradicate extortion, intimidation, and harassment of motorists, while promoting a more transparent and organized system of revenue collection.

In line with my campaign promise to sanitize methods of revenue collection in Abia, and stop all kinds of extortion, intimidation and harassement of motorists, I have directed the immediate suspension of all kinds of Transport Levies payable to Abia state government and imposed on Tricycles, Buses, Taxis and other commercial vehicles plying Abia roads.” – he wrote on his official social media page.

Governor Alex Otti, known for his passion for development and accountability, has wasted no time in addressing the long-standing concerns surrounding the collection of transport levies.

This suspension takes immediate effect and will remain until we review these levies and make public arrangements for the smooth, organized and transparent collection of such Transport Levies.” – he noted.

Governor Otti’s directive to suspend transport levies is just the first step towards a more efficient and transparent system of revenue collection.

While the levies are temporarily suspended, the government plans to conduct a thorough review of the existing framework.

This review will pave the way for the implementation of a fair and organized system that ensures all levies are collected transparently, without causing unnecessary hardships to the transport operators or the general public.

He has instructed security agents to apprehend and bring to justice anyone found violating this directive.

In the light of the above decision, I have asked all those involved, directly and indirectly to please discontinue forthwith, or face the wrath of the law, as security agents have been briefed and directed to apprehend and bring to justice anyone found violating this directive.” – he said.

This strong stance sends a clear message that his administration is committed to upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights of motorists and transport operators in Abia State.
