The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC in Rivers state has criticised the actions of some of its members, claiming that they are geared at destabilizing the union’s leadership.
This comes after NSCDC officials used their van to block the NLC state secretariat. To avoid a breakdown in law and order, members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) from the Rivers State Command took over the state secretariat of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) yesterday.
The action, according to the communiqué read by NLC State Secretary Olabe Matthew, is in violation of the union’s constitution.
He demanded that the commandant of the NSCDC in Rivers state withdraw his personnel from the secretariat.
Hitvibz gathered that the incident started when the state’s NLC leader, Comrade Beatrice Itubo, refused to back down after being dismissed from office.
Itubo was announced as the Labour Party’s (LP) governorship candidate for the state’s general election in 2023 last week.
According to Joseph Agbo, a member of the NLC in Rivers State, only the state Administrative Council of the union has the authority to request the dismissal of the NLC state Chairperson.
