Quite a large of students of the Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo, on Tuesday, stormed the Owerri-Port Harcourt highway in protest, obstructing flow of vehicles and other activities.
The undergraduates, who were spotted with placards accused the school management and the state government of frustrating their academic programmes.
Hitvibz gathered that their academic activities in Imo poly has been thwarted for almost a year now since the school was relocated to Omuma.
The students disclosed that academic programme is yet to commence at the new site, nearly one year after the state government announced the relocation of the school to the hometown of the State Governor – Hope Uzodinma.
According to Sampson, a student of the school;
“This is one year that the governor announced the relocation of the HND departments to Omuma, yet nothing has happened.”
He added that;
“There is no single structure in Omuma to show that the academic programme will commence there anytime soon. We are giving the school two weeks to fix it or we will embark on a continuous protest.”
Meanwhile, a commuter, one Chidirolex said;
“I spent about 4+ hours on traffic yesterday because students of University of Agriculture formally known as Imo Poly protested about lack of going to school. According to a student they’ve been in final year for 3+ years now. This just made me wonder how students will be given.”
