Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has expressed deep sadness over sections of Ariaria International Market, specifically the Power Line Shoe Maker Zone, that was engulfed by fire yesterday.
Upon receiving news of the fire incident, the Governor extended his heartfelt sympathies to the affected traders, who suffered significant losses amounting to hundreds of millions of Naira.
Governor Otti promptly directed the Commissioner for Trade, Commerce, and Industry, Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu, and the Senior Special Assistant on Aba Rejuvenation, Mr. Uche Ukeje, to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the affected areas.
“This would enable us to take informed actions on forestalling a reoccurrence of the tragic incident and assist the traders to mitigate their loss,” the governor said.
The primary objective of the assessment is to gather vital information that will guide the government in formulating appropriate strategies to prevent any future occurrences and aid the affected traders in mitigating their losses.
Governor Otti emphasized the state government’s commitment to deploying the best available solutions and resources to ensure the safety and protection of the lives and property of the people of Abia State.
“As part of our core mandate, we will continue to deploy the best solutions and resources to secure the lives and property of our people,” he said.
