In order to allow students to partake in the 2023 general elections, the federal government has ordered universities all around the nation to shut down for three weeks.
The National Universities Commission’s (NUC) Deputy Executive Secretary (Administration), Chris Maiyaki, informed the vice chancellors and directors of inter-university centers in a letter that the instruction came as a result of an order from Minister of Education Adamu Adamu.
Part of the letter reads;
“As vice-chancellors of all universities and directors/ Chief Executive of inter university centres are quite aware, the 2023 General Elections have been scheduled to hold on Saturday 25 February 2023, for the Presidential and National Assembly, and Saturday 11 March 2023 for Gubernatorial and State Assembly, respectively.”
All of the nation’s institutions will be closed from February 22 to March 14 so that students can vote in the general election, according to Maiyaki.

Meanwhile, for students to be able to vote in the 2023 general elections, the National Universities Commission has mandated that all universities across the nation close.
The public has demanded that higher schools close so that students can cast their votes in the elections of 2023. Over 26 million students are currently listed in INEC’s registration, according to data.
About a month ago, the House of Representatives, parents, and other important stakeholders in the education sector requested that the federal government close tertiary educational institutions so that students may vote in the general election.
According to Maiyaki, all universities around the nation will be closed from February 22 to March 14 to allow students to vote in the general election.
