Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo, Chairman of the Caretaker Committee (CTC) of Obio Akpor Local Government Area, has declared that Rivers State is too big for one-man to control.
He made this statement during a visit to two former chairmen of Obio Akpor LGA, Hon. Freddie Ichegbo and Hon. Chikordi Dike, at their homes, Hitvibz reports.
Ihunwo expressed confidence in Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s ability to complete his first term and win re-election in 2027, despite opposition machinations.
He urged well-meaning Obio Akpor residents to support the governor, emphasising that the state’s resources should benefit all, not just a select few.
The CTC chairman noted that many protagonists in the Rivers State political crisis hail from Obio Akpor, seeking to control the state’s resources after the eight-year reign of former Governor Nyesom Wike.
He questioned whether this was the desire of the Rivers State people and urged unity against impunity.
“Rivers State is too big for one man to control at the detriment of over five million people,” Ihunwo emphasised.
The visit was seen as a significant gesture, with former chairman Hon. Freddie Ichegbo pledging to mobilise support for Governor Fubara in Ward 4 of Obio Akpor LGA.
Another former chairman, Hon. Chikordi Dike, expressed no regrets about leaving the APC to join forces with Governor Fubara, citing the governor’s people-centred approach.
