Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has finally dropped hint on the candidate that people of the state will support in the upcoming 2023 general election.
According to Wike, 2023 general election in the state will be a turning point in the electorate’s decision to reject those who despise the State.
Wike made this statement on Monday while speaking at the Rivers State PDP’s Local Government Campaign Flag-Off rally at Felix Obuah Pavilion in Omoku Town in the Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government area (ONELGA).
Governor Wike declared that if you despise Rivers State, don’t waste your time hoping to win support from the state, and that Rivers residents will only support those who love them.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State would ultimately prevail, the governor stated, adding that the election will be a fight to the finish.
Governor Wike emphasized that the PDP had previously won the governorship, senate, house, and state assembly seats when it ran for office, and that this would likely continue in the upcoming election.
The State was left to its fate, according to Wike, when the local government areas of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, Abua/Odual, Ahoada East, and Ahoada West of the State faced flooding last year.
“That is how you know those who hate Rivers State, that is how you know those who love us. If you hate Rivers State, we will not give you our vote. We will only give our vote to those who love Rivers state. You have to listen to your leaders through the DG (director general) of the campaign. They will come back to you, sit you down and tell you where we are heading to.” – Wike said.
The Rivers state governor added that;
“It is a fight to finish. Do not be afraid. We are going to win at the end of the day. You know that we have always won. We will continue to win. We have never failed in anything we have told you. Success has always been with us. God has been with us. This time is not going to be different. God will continue to lead us.”
When they arrived in Omoku Town for the rally, according to Governor Wike, they met the Oba, who bestowed his blessings on them.
“Oba has done the traditional thing by blessing us and telling us, go to the field, my people are there, they will be with you, they will stay with you and we have seen it today.” – he said.
Governor Wike advised the populace to ignore any candidates or political figures from other parties who might approach them and ask for their support.
He emphasized that such people betrayed them when they had the chance to keep their word and provide them with development initiatives.
“Do you allow those who were previously given the opportunity. They failed you. Is there anything they can tell you again?’
Governor Wike pleaded with the people to continue their support for the PDP at the same level as in 2015 and 2019 in order to build on the achievements made by his administration.
The governor emphasized that he made commitments to the residents of ONELGA and kept those commitments by completing development projects there.
In spite of the internal roads in Omoku being granted for restoration and abandoned by the previous administration, Governor Wike said that upon taking office, he made sure the work was completed.
By the end of February, his administration would open the Kregeni to Omoku Road and the dualized Omoku-Egbema Road, he said. He added that Ahoada-Omoku Road Phase 2 had already been awarded and will include street lighting.
