A Photo depicting a man spitting some liquid (water) in the face of a woman in what appeared to be a ceremonial rights ritual – propped up on social media caused a stir among users on social media.

The chieftaincy confinement ceremony photo last weekend aroused conversations online. It depicts a man spitting some liquid (water) in the face of a woman in what appeared to be a ceremonial rights ritual

As expected, many did not understand the reasoning behind this, some others have offered to give an explanation.

@emperoolumale took to their Instagram page to shed some light and provide some explanation regarding the somewhat bizarre action captured in the photo.

They said:

“For those of you asking about the first slide: In our Africa Traditions we use water and gin as libation to our ancestors, Orishas or ones ORI, Kabiyesi Oniba Ekun was making a plume of breath or stream of Gin or Water to seal the officiated prayers, it’s a form of ASE or so be it in our culture.”
