Joy Omewa start fresh chapter for BK Häcken
“I wan bring joy come, just like my name be ‘Joy’,” Omewa talk after she complete the transfer.
Joy Omewa journey reach Sweden no be today. After she leave Nigeria at the age of 17, she first play for Confluence Queens before she move go Denmark to join B93.
After one season with B93, the Nigerian striker move go Fortuna Hjørring, where she spend four-and-a-half successful years before she later join Nottingham Forest for England. Now, she don begin another fresh journey with BK Häcken.
While she dey Denmark, Omewa show say she sabi score goals well well. For the 2024/25 season, she score 22 league goals in 24 matches to finish as the league top scorer, as she also help Fortuna Hjørring win both the Danish league title and the domestic cup.
Altogether, she score 55 league goals for Fortuna Hjørring and add another seven goals for European competitions before she move go England.
BK Häcken team manager Martin Ericsson believe say the Nigerian international go make instant impact.
“Joy na strong striker wey get power, but she no just dey wait for ball. She dey involved well for play and she be real killer inside the box. Her eye for goal clear, and she always dey look for the next chance to score,” Ericsson talk.
Joy Omewa ready to shine for BK Häcken
Omewa talk say her time for Denmark help her grow well as striker, especially how to position herself and finish chances inside the penalty area.
“The biggest thing wey I improve na my goalscoring ability, especially how I dey position myself inside the box. I work hard to make sure say anytime chance come, I fit use am well,” she talk.
Ericsson also praise the Nigerian forward because of her winning mentality and character.
“Joy go bring plenty energy both for inside and outside the pitch. She get strong mentality, she like to win and score goals. We dey look forward to welcome her after the African Championships. Joy, welcome to Hisingen,” he add.
The transfer come shortly after another big achievement for Omewa. She recently make her senior debut for the Super Falcons and score two goals to celebrate the special moment.
“This one mean plenty to me. Na my dream since I be small pikin to play for Nigeria, so to score two goals for my debut sweet me well well,” Omewa talk.
She don also make the Super Falcons squad wey go play for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations for Morocco, where she go team up with BK Häcken midfielder Halimatu Ayinde.
Omewa say choosing BK Häcken no hard at all because she believe say the club na the right place to help her continue to grow.
“I know say BK Häcken na fantastic club wey dey help players develop. I believe say na here be the right place for me,” the Nigerian striker conclude.
