Ifeanyi Nchekwube arrive Port Harcourt after one strong season with Niger Tornadoes, where him performances help the club avoid relegation from the NPFL.
The former Akwa United and Sporting Lagos goalkeeper finish fourth among the league best goalkeepers for clean sheets last season, and many clubs show interest before Rivers United win the race to sign am.
After one of the team’s training, Nchekwube talk to AIT say e wan raise the bar by targeting 20 clean sheets for the coming campaign.
“I get 13 clean sheets last season, so I wan get like 20 this season, by God grace.”
The goalkeeper also hail the impact of head coach Finidi George, saying the experience of the former Super Eagles coach fit help Rivers United achieve bigger things.
“We get one of the big names as our TA, na Finidi George. With everything wey he don gather, plus our own contribution, we go move further and do better.”

Meanwhile, new midfielder Shola Oladunjoye believe say the Pride of Rivers get everything needed to compete at the highest level after completing him move from Sporting Lagos.
The 20-year-old midfielder choose Rivers United instead of extending him contract with the newly promoted NPFL side because he want play continental football under Finidi George.
Oladunjoye spend four years with Madiba FC before he announce himself at Sporting Lagos during the 2025/26 season, where his creativity, energy and consistency make people notice am.
The youngster believe say the presence of experienced players wey don represent Nigeria go give Rivers United extra advantage.
“Plenty good players dey here, quality players wey don represent the Nigerian national team and play for different leagues.
“I believe say with these players, we go win this season and go far, even reach quarterfinals and final of CAF Champions League.”
The 2026/27 NPFL season go start for the last weekend of August, while Rivers United go begin their CAF Champions League campaign for the first week of September.
