Earlier today, three commissioners on the Rivers State Executive Council resigned from their positions, citing a toxic workspace.
Prof. Chinedu Mmom (education), Dr. Gift Worlu (housing), and Austen Ben-Chioma (environment) submitted their resignations in separate letters to Governor Siminalayi Fubara through the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, hitvibz reports.
The resignations come on the heels of a political crisis in the state, which had previously led to the resignation of nine commissioners.
The crisis was temporarily resolved through the intervention of President Bola Tinubu.
The three commissioners, who are loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, cited a hostile work environment as the reason for their departure.
Their resignation comes 24 hours after Governor Fubara publicly criticised his predecessor and estranged political godfather, accusing him of leaving a huge debt burden.
This development follows the earlier resignation of two other commissioners, Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor (former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice) and Isaac Kamalu (former Commissioner for Finance).
Adangor and Kamalu resigned after being redeployed to other ministries by Governor Fubara.
The mass resignation of commissioners has raised concerns about the political stability and governance of the state.
