The newly sworn-in Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, recently embarked on an on-the-spot assessment visit to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital and the Challawa Water Treatment Plant.
The visits shed light on the dire condition of these crucial institutions, prompting Yusuf to call for a comprehensive intervention in the healthcare system of the state.
Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital has long been a vital healthcare facility serving the general public in Kano.
“Today, I paid an on the spot assessment visit to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital; which is a very important institution for provision of healthcare to the general public in Kano.” – he noted.
During his visit, Abba Kabir Yusuf witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by the hospital.
The deteriorating infrastructure, lack of essential medical equipment, and inadequate resources underscored the urgent need for intervention.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Yusuf pledged to prioritize the revival of the healthcare system in Kano State.
“The situation I found the hospital in encapsulates the need for a comprehensive intervention into our dear State’s healthcare system,” stated Abba Kabir Yusuf.
He emphasized the importance of ensuring quality healthcare services for all residents, irrespective of their socioeconomic backgrounds.
The intervention committee, established by Yusuf, will be tasked with assessing the requirements of the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital and devising strategies for its revitalization.
In addition to the hospital visit, Abba Kabir Yusuf also inspected the Challawa Water Treatment Plant.
Water scarcity and lack of access to clean drinking water have been persistent challenges in Kano State.
Yusuf expressed concern over the plant’s current state and its impact on public health.
To address this issue, he established an intervention committee to assess the plant’s condition and develop plans for its revival. The goal is to ensure the provision of potable water to the people of Kano.
The intervention committees for both the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital and the Challawa Water Treatment Plant will consist of experts and stakeholders in the respective fields.
They will collaborate to identify key areas for improvement, devise strategies, and allocate resources efficiently.
“I was also at the Challawa Water Treatment Plant to asses its present state. I have already set-up an intervention committee to look into the plant’s condition and revive it for the provision of potable water to the public.” – he said.
