Chief Donatus Okereke, Eze Ndigbo of Ifon village in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo state, has reportedly been kidnapped by gunmen suspected of being kidnappers.
Okereke, a businessman, was kidnapped by gunmen near Nigercat Quarry Junction in Elegbeka community on Monday morning, November 22.
The abductors allegedly stopped him near Ifon Road and dragged him into the forest, abandoning his vehicle on the road.
According to a village resident, the victim’s vehicle was stopped in the center of the road, raising suspicions among those who contacted the community head in Ifon.
Olaniyi Eni-Olotu, a community leader and the Secretary to the Regent of Ifon, verified the kidnapping and stated the crime had been reported to the police station.
After abducting the Igbo Chief, the abductors took him via a dense bush path leading to the woodland in the vicinity, he added.
According to him, the kidnappers fired a shot into the air to stop their victim’s vehicle before abducting him, and they stole a substantial sum of money from the man’s vehicle.
“Immediately we got the alarm about his abduction, the Regent of Ifon swung into action and contacted the Police as well as the Amotekun corps. We believe the man will be rescued alive and unhurt,” he added.
Funmilayo Odunlami, a spokesman for the Ondo State Police Command, said the event was reported at the police station, and detectives from the command sprung into action.
Bullet rounds were discovered where the vehicle was parked in the center of the road, according to Odunlami.
The PPRO stated that;
“The victim who is a businessman, left his home saying that he wanted to go and purchase something. He actually went to a quarry within the area.”
She added;
“It was later discovered that his vehicle was seen in the middle of the road and his number was not going through after those who saw the vehicle tried his line. It is actually a case of suspected kidnapping because bullet shells were seen on the road where they saw his vehicle.”
“The DPO inside the axis has mobilised his men to look for him,” she said, assuring that the victim would be retrieved alive and unharmed by members of the state Police command from the area who are on the trail of the hoodlums.
