On Tuesday, a group of women from Ondo State gathered in Owo town to summon “Ogun” (god of iron and war) to cast a curse on the culprits of the killing of worshippers at St. Francis Catholic Church.
The women claimed they were calling on the land’s ancestral spirit to come up and fight the killers and revenge the victims’ deaths.
“Our ancestors will answer our prayers, and those people will regret ever coming to Owo,” one of the women stated.
The Owo women, plainly enraged by the killings, poured libations and dropped metals on the floor, pleading with the god of iron to bring them justice.
Cutlasses, leaves, and herbal concoctions were also carried by the women, whose number could not be verified due to their large number.
They met in the middle of town and made a circle around various artifacts, hoping to see the gods’ face and bring justice to the terrorists.
It could be recalled that on Sunday, unknown gunmen stormed the church, killing 22 people and injured at least 19 more.
