Rivers State Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has stated that concerned stakeholders battled for the removal of the immediate past national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He noted that the action was intended to reposition the party to win the president in 2023.
He insisted that such a change of leadership at the national level was likewise necessary to avoid the party’s impending death.
Speaking at the flag-off of the Oyigbo-Okoloma Road in Oyigbo Local Government Area on Wednesday, which was performed by the national Chairman of the PDP, Dr. lyorchia Ayu, Governor Wike asserted that the party now has good leadership in place to rescue Nigeria from the All Progressives Congress’s bad governance.
As a result, he advised the PDP’s National Chairman to prepare for the task ahead of him and seize the opportunity he has to bring positive change to the party and restore it to the presidency.
The governor stated that the people of Rivers have no other political party except the PDP, and that they will not allow it to die.
Rivers is one of the few states in the country, he claims, that denied the All Progressives Congress (APC) a 25% vote share in the 2015 and 2019 general elections.
On the subject of his successor, the governor advised party members who are now holding consultations about who will be the future governor of Rivers State not to include the PDP national chairman or the PDP National Working Committee in their discussions.
“There is calm in my state about those who want to be governor. What I have told them is to go and do your consultation, but nobody should go and consult the national chairman, nobody should consult NWC. Do your consultation here because it is the people here that will vote.”
