In a bold move aimed at revitalising Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, NNPC Ltd has announced a state of emergency on crude oil production.
The declaration came from Mr. Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, during his keynote address at the 23rd Nigeria Oil & Gas Conference and Exhibition in Abuja, Hitvibz reports.
Mr. Kyari emphasised a decisive shift in strategy, stating,
“We have declared war on the challenges affecting our crude oil production. This is a call to action. We possess the necessary tools and knowledge. Now is the time for collective effort among all stakeholders.”
Highlighting operational insights, Mr. Kyari revealed that Nigeria has the capacity to produce two million barrels of crude oil per day without additional rigs.
However, he noted significant delays in procurement processes as a critical hurdle hindering optimal production levels.
To address these challenges, NNPC Ltd plans to overhaul outdated crude oil pipelines and implement a rig sharing initiative with partners.
This initiative aims to ensure rigs remain operational within Nigeria for extended periods, mirroring global best practices.
Mr. Kyari urged industry-wide collaboration to streamline production costs and boost efficiency across operations.
He also revealed NNPC Ltd’s commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s gas infrastructure through projects like the OB3 and Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano pipelines.
These developments are crucial for bolstering domestic gas supply, supporting power generation, and fostering economic growth.
In alignment with the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiative, NNPC Ltd has partnered with NIPCO Gas to establish several CNG stations.
12 new stations are set for commissioning in Lagos and Abuja, marking a significant stride towards sustainable energy solutions.
