Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi has announced his decision not to celebrate his 62nd birthday on Wednesday, July 19th, 2023 in light of the current deplorable state of the nation.
However, he has called on friends, members of the Labour Party, and his dedicated supporters, known as the “OBIdient Family,” to join him in commemorating the day through acts of kindness and philanthropy.
The former Anambra Governor took to his Twitter page to share his thoughts and appeal to well-wishers who desired to celebrate his birthday with gifts.
He humbly requested that instead of presenting him with material offerings, they should redirect their generosity towards those in need, particularly during these challenging times.
Encouraging a spirit of compassion, Obi urged individuals to visit hospitals, orphanages, homes for the aged, and facilities for people with disabilities to extend their generous gifts.
He also suggested supporting schools in remote areas by providing them with basic amenities they require.
For those who are willing and able to do more, Obi suggested visiting various Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps across the country.
As a demonstration of his commitment to his own appeal, he announced his intention to follow through with these actions, sharing his time and resources with the less fortunate in his community.
Additionally, he plans to raise funds for schools, hospitals, and other essential institutions.
Emphasizing the need for collective responsibility, Obi highlighted that leaders and individuals in positions of influence must take the lead in sacrificing for a better Nigeria.
Concerned about the current state of insecurity, violence, and bloodshed, he stressed that citizens’ lives and properties should be secure, and the nation should prioritize creating opportunities for its youth.
“This, and not my birthday, is the true celebration that will be beneficial to all Nigerians,” Obi emphasized.
Peter Obi, known for his active involvement in advocating for a better Nigeria, urged fellow citizens to expand their imagination of what is possible for the nation.
Drawing attention to recent incidents of violence, he cited the loss of over 200 lives in Mangu LGA, Plateau State, and over 100 lives in Benue State.
Obi expressed his desire to celebrate in a new Nigeria that is safe, productive, and inclusive—a nation that works for all and that Nigerians can take pride in.
