The Federal Government has revealed that the second Niger Bridge will be fully and officially ready for use by Christmas this year.
This was said by Mr. Seyi Martins, the Ag Controller of Works in Anambra, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Awka.
According to Martins, the 1.6 km long first phase of the Second Niger Bridge has been completed to a 95 percent level.
Contrary to the rumors going around, the Controller stated that the project would be ready for usage by travellers during the holiday season, not by 2024.

He claimed that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is committed to making sure that passengers experienced stress-free journey over the River Niger.
During the holiday season this year, he claimed, there would be no traffic congestion like there was on the existing bridge.
“The first phase of the project, which was the bridge itself, is substantially completed. The bridge project is 95 per cent complete and it is expected to be ready by December 2022.” he said.
Adding that;
“The steel guard rails are complete, the roads are set for vehicle traffic; the toll plaza area is almost completed, and what is left is the installation of toll booth canopies.”
The Controller stated that the bridge could be reached from the Obosi interchange on the Onitsha-Owerri route and that, in the interim, a road was being built to connect traffic on the Asaba-Benin highway to it.
“The second phase of the project is yet to commence, but the government has deemed it fit that upon completion of the first phase it will be open to traffic. At the Onitsha end, there is an interchange at Obosi along the Onitsha – Owerri highway where you can access the bridge. On the Asaba end, there is a link road we are constructing to enable travelers to access the bridge from Benin-Onitsha road,” he said. (NAN)
