The Rivers State government has confirmed the termination of all private waste Contractors contracts, which will take effect on April 29, 2022.Rivers government sacks waste Contractors

The decision to end their contract with the Rivers State Management Agency (RIWAMA) was based on their inability to meet their contractual responsibility of providing a cleaner and healthier environment for Rivers’ residents, according to a statement signed by the Special Assistant on Media to the state Governor – Kelvin Ebiri

In the meantime, the Rivers State Government has asked the Chairmen of Port Harcourt City and Obio-Akpor Local Government Areas to take immediate responsibility of the garbage evacuation in their jurisdictions, pending the appointment of new waste contractors by Monday.

The Rivers State Government, however, assured residents and indigenes of the state of its willingness to address the state’s garbage challenges in a comprehensive manner, in accordance with its goal to guarantee a more hygienic environment.
