Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has doubled the initial number of Special Assistants to him on Political Unit Affairs from 100,000 to 200,000.
At the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Omagwa in the Ikwerre Local Government Area on Friday, Governor Wike introduced the revised figure while inaugurating the second group of the first 100,000 Special Assistants from Rivers East Senatorial District.
The governor outlined the influx of demands from Rivers residents who requested to be taken into consideration for the position.
“As I speak to you, my mail box almost crashed. People are sending text messages saying ‘why are you leaving us alone, the job is too much. This number cannot do the work. Therefore, a lot of Rivers people are volunteering to be part of this work. And can announce to you today, we have increased the number from 100,000 to 200,000.” – Wike said.
In order to find credible individuals who they believe can help the State maintain its position in the comity of States, Governor Wike instructed all political leaders of the different Local Government Areas to come home.
Governor Wike explained that even though so much has been accomplished, his government is not taking the final few months for granted to those who do not comprehend the reasoning of the appointment.
He stated that the newly appointed Special Assistants to him on Political Units Affairs will aid in the successful conclusion of his presidency.
“It is me who is appointing. It is me that wears the shoes that knows where it pinches. It is not you outside because you are not part of government. I know what it takes and I know that these people will help me. Now that I am finishing, I want to finish very well.”
The appointment, according to Governor Wike, is in line with his promise to start implementing the policy of stomach infrastructure that he made on the day the Rebisi flyover was launched.
He claims that the appointment will put money in the hands of Rivers residents and is a necessary component of stomach infrastructure.
Governor Wike congratulated the new employees and advised them to count themselves among the fortunate 6 million Rivers residents who would be working for him.
He said that since their political leaders had confidence in them, they ought to make a commitment to carrying out the task at hand well.
The task, according to Governor Wike, entails interacting with the populace to learn what they are saying and their opinions on government initiatives and policies, whether favorable or unfavorable, and then relaying this information as feedback to his office via the constituency and ward liaison officers.
