Seven National Youth Service Corps members who were abducted while traveling from the NYSC camp in Ondo State to Port Harcourt have been released.
According to Hitvibz’s understanding of information provided by a family member of one of the abducted, five of the 12 corps members who were abducted last Tuesday along the Rumuji axis of the East-West Road in the Emohua Local Government Area managed to escape,
The number of people on the bus was not disclosed by the Rivers State Police Command, despite the fact that it acknowledged the kidnapping.
One of the seven Corp members who were kidnapped and allegedly released on Sunday night after eight days in captivity has a family member who claims a ransom was paid for their release.
According to the man whose sister-in-law was one of the abducted, the other seven kidnapped corps members were also released at Choba in the Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.
In a statement on Wednesday, the man said that the parents of the freed NYSC members had admitted to paying to ensure their release.
He said that the two girls and five boys who made up the Corp were released on Sunday night in Choba with mud all over them.
The Rivers State Police Command has not yet officially announced their release.
Recall that in a statement, the police spokesperson, Grace Iringe Koko, claimed that a tactical team had been sent by the commissioner of police, Okon Effiong, to secure the safe release of the remaining corps members.
