The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shaibu, faced an unexpected situation when he found himself unable to access his office after being locked out of the Government House in Benin, the state’s capital.
Shaibu and Governor Godwin Obaseki have been in a dispute regarding who will represent their party in the upcoming 2024 gubernatorial election in the state.
Previously, Shaibu had accused Obaseki of planning his impeachment and had taken legal action to prevent such a move.
However, he later withdrew the lawsuit following the intervention of prominent members and stakeholders within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
The conflict persisted, resulting in the relocation of the deputy governor’s office to an unfinished building outside the Government House.
Additionally, Shaibu’s media team was disbanded following a confrontation between the Deputy Governor and some of Obaseki’s aides.
On Monday, Shaibu attempted to access the Government House but found the gate leading to his office locked.
The Edo Deputy Governor, who expressed his frustration after being locked of the Government house noted that;
“Up until now, I haven’t received any official communication regarding relocation. Civil servants have received official communication, but I haven’t. As I speak to you, I’m standing by the gate,” during a conversation with an unidentified person over the phone.
Shaibu and his aides waited for approximately an hour before eventually departing.
Obaseki’s two-term tenure is set to conclude in 2024, and while Shaibu, who has served as his deputy since 2016, aspires to succeed him, Obaseki has different plans in mind, hitvibz understands.
