A principal has been suspended by the Rivers State Government following reports of extortion of money from secondary school students.
With immediate effect, the state has suspended the principal of the Government Girls Junior Secondary School, Rumuokwuta, in Obio Akpor Local Government Area.
Professor Chinedu Mmom, the state commissioner for education, said in a statement that the principal’s inadequate response to his question about the alleged extortion of money from students was the reason for the suspension.
The commissioner invited the school principal last week in response to claims of extortion.
However, the Education Commissioner instructed the Principal to transfer control to the Vice Principal (Administration) so that she might serve as the Principal pending further instructions.
The full statement reads;
