Six individuals have reportedly been confirmed dead and one person sustained injuries in a tragic road accident that took place on Tuesday afternoon in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.
The incident unfolded on the Akure-Owo Road and involved a red Man Diesel Truck and a gray Toyota Sienna with the registration FFN 310 PU.
This unfortunate event occurred around 3 kilometers away from Akure Airport, at approximately 1:39 pm.
The Ondo State Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Ezekiel SonAllah, confirmed the accident through an official statement.
Out of the seven individuals involved in the accident, six adult males lost their lives, while one adult female sustained injuries.
The causes of this accident were identified as speed violation (SPV), wrongful overtaking (WOV), and loss of control (LOC).
Additionally, during the investigation at the accident scene, money and mobile phones were recovered and subsequently handed over to the police authorities in Ogbese, located in Akure North Local Government Area of the state.
As a result of this tragic incident, the bodies of the six deceased individuals have been placed in the morgue at the General Hospital in Akure.
Moreover, the road obstruction has been cleared to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.
In response to this unfortunate event, Commander SonAllah issued an important reminder to motorists.
He emphasized the significance of adhering to prescribed speed limits and urged commercial drivers to install speed-limiting devices in their vehicles.
He also encouraged passengers to actively participate in ensuring their safety by cautioning drivers against excessive speed and reporting any violations to the relevant security agencies patrolling the highways.
