Governor Siminalayi Fubara has clarified the rationale behind appointing Ambassador Desmond Akawor, the Chairman of the Rivers Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to lead the Palliative Distribution Committee in the state.
Governor Fubara emphasized that Ambassador Akawor’s selection isn’t solely due to his PDP affiliation but is primarily based on his exceptional competence in handling such responsibilities.
He highlighted that members of the Executive Council (EXCO) were also consulted during the selection process to ensure a well-rounded team.
This announcement was made by the Rivers governor on a Friday, where he officially revealed that the state government had secured a substantial relief package amounting to N2 billion in funds and a significant supply of 16,800 bags of rice.
These resources are aimed at supporting the most vulnerable members of the state as they face the challenges resulting from the removal of fuel subsidies.
Governor Fubara emphasized the gravity of the task to the palliative distribution committee, stressing that it’s a profound call to serve the community.
He urged the committee members to approach their duties with utmost seriousness, as the success of their efforts would reflect directly on the government’s performance.
In response, Ambassador Akawor acknowledged the collective hardship the nation is currently enduring.
He regarded the assignment as a solemn responsibility, recognizing that the people of the state are facing tremendous difficulties.
Ambassador Akawor also assured everyone that their team had been actively involved in various initiatives to alleviate the suffering of the people and pledged commitment to fulfilling this new responsibility without disappointment.
