Honourable Ichemat, Mayor of Port Harcourt and Chairman of Port Harcourt City LGA, has ridiculed the poor attendance at protests staged by 21 former Local Government Area Council Chairmen across various LGAs in Rivers State.

The Mayor claimed that the protests, which took place despite a police advisory against public demonstrations, aimed to instigate a crisis in the state, Hitvibz reports.

However, the low turnout suggests that the people of Rivers State have rejected the protests and remain in support of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the Mayor said.

Mayor Ichemat explained that the lack of public participation indicates a clear distaste for the protesters’ agenda.

You can see the low turnout of their protest across the state; what does that tell you? he questioned.

The former council chairmen, loyal to former Governor Wike, had protested at their local council areas, waving placards that read, “Sim Fubara Can’t Continue to Act As He Likes.”

Despite this, the Mayor remains confident in the government’s support and urges the police to remain vigilant against attempts to disrupt the peace.

He told the Nigerian Police to uphold their duties and professional ethics, warning that if the illegal and unwanted protest is not carefully managed, it could escalate into something uncontrollable.

He also stressed the importance of preventing unrest and chaos, which he believes are part of a sinister plot to create a state of emergency in Rivers State.

However, he assured that such efforts would ultimately be defeated.
