On Sunday afternoon, a fire razed nearly 200 rooms at Elechi Beach waterfront area of Mile One, Diobu, making it Port Harcourt’s fourth fire in a week.
According to a source, the fire was sparked by an unauthorized electricity connection, which has forced many residents to lose their homes.
According to some residents who spoke to reporters on Sunday, the firethe fire that razed over 200 rooms at Elechi was started by a spark caused by an unauthorized electrical connection.
They claimed that individuals who are responsible are constantly messing with the area’s electricity supply.
They also bemoaned the fact that, despite multiple calls, the fire department was unavailable during the incident.
Recall that the first fire broke out in the early hours of Sunday, November 21 at Isiokpo Street, D/Line.
The second at an unfinished building in Rumuokoro, while the third at the Nembe/Bille Jetty shoreline.
All of which were blamed on illegal petroleum products known as “kpor fire” by the state administration.
